Pre-national holiday celebration in Ostroveni

Ostroveni is a small commune South of Craiova, very close to the ferry crossing from Romania to Bulgaria.
As the school there is part of our project, some of the volunteers had already done some activities there before. But, for me and Teo, last week was the first time that we went there. It was the day before the small holiday started, in Romania, so there was an event in the school, as a celebration for the National day of Romania. And as this holiday would mean no school, of course, the kids were very happy.

When we went there the kids weren't having lessons, instead, they were grouped in classrooms, listening to national songs and singing.
We went to a classroom where the principal of the school was, along with principals from other schools and some teachers. There was a play, about the unification of all the Romanian territories into one, followed by a singing performance, and then, followed by some more singing. All the kids were happy because of the holiday, wearing badges with the Romanian colors on them, feeling proud about their country, they were also happy to see foreigners in their school.

After the performances, me and Teo did a small speech about our the national days in our countries', which turned out very disappointing for the people there, because, me and Teo are not very nationalistic people, so of course, we didn't talk much about it (plus, I don't even know when my country's national day is).

But, nevertheless, our lack of nationalism was soon forgotten by the following drawing competition that the kids had, in which we were very happy to assist.

A very nice experience, the kids said goodbye to us, and asked us to go and do something with them again.
