A day as any other, we got up and went off to work. But today we went to the school in Valea Stanciului. Valea Stanciului is a commune in the Dolj county, it was very interesting to visit it as we passed rural road to get there, and we were fascinated by the big fields, rivers, live stock and small villages that we saw.
When we got to the school, we didn't really know much about the school or the kids, but eager to explore, we went in and met the workers in the school and the students.
There weren't many students as some were having their break, but there were still a couple of dozen students. We joined their English lesson where a teacher by the name of Ana was having a lesson, as it was Halloween a couple of days ago, the classroom was in that theme, and the children were in costumes, had we known, we would've gone masked as well.
After observing the students for one lesson, we quickly set up to do two activities with the students, they consisted of a name game and a fun energizing activity to introduce ourselves and our methods. It was a bit tricky, as schools usually have desks and chairs, and a non-written rule of non-formal education is that it's done while sitting in a circle, but we had to make due with what we had, so we improvised a little bit. The name game was done very swiftly, but the energizer afterwards was very improvised, although it went surprisingly good. The students had some basic knowledge of English, so it wasn't that hard to communicate with them.
The activity went well, as the students were enjoying it and so was the teacher.
All in all, we are looking forward to working in the school again, and make more and funnier activities with them in the future.
